Cycling - The 16th Annual Tour de Nez

The Tour de Nez, a six day celebration of cycling featuring some of the top professional racers in the United States, is expanding in 2008 with a full roster of family friendly rides, events and parades taking place June 17th-June 22nd in Reno, Truckee and Northstar-at-Tahoe.
” This is where it starts for everyone.” said race organizer Tim Healion. “Everybody has an experience of cycling as a kid. If we give them a way to participate, hopefully they’ll find the excitement in to continue for a lifetime.”
Kid’s Racin’ for the Little Ones
The Biggest Little Kid’s Race Series kick’s off in downtown Reno, NV on June 18th and is open to all children 12 and under. The race takes place on the same course as the downtown criterium and all participants ride away with a medal and a certificate to Ben & Jerry’s for free ice cream. The series continues on June 19th in Truckee, CA and finishes up with two races at Northstar-at-Tahoe on June 20th and 21st. There will also be free decorating stations at each race for those creative young cyclists looking to dress up their bikes. Children that participate in all four races will receive a special “Tour de Nez Young Cyclist” certificate signed by the overall winner of the Tour de Nez and are entered to win aTour de Nez swag bag filled Tour de Nez merchandise.
Family Fun Ride for all Levels
Taking place at Northstar-at-Tahoe on June 20th the Tour de Nez Family Fun ride is a supported “mini century” ride open to participants of all levels. The 10 mile ride starts in the Village at Northstar and follows the mountain roads around the resort. This easy course highlights the beauty of the Tahoe area, while introducing young and novice cyclists to the fun and ease of bike riding. Numerous water and snack stations line the course—making this a great option for the entire family. All participants receive a 2008 commemorative Tour de Nez t-shirt.
The Celebration of Cycling Continues
Headquartered at Northstar-at-Tahoe, Lake Tahoe’s family friendly four season destination, the festival offers a full industry expo featuring some of the latest innovations in cycling and tips from industry insiders. The event also offers free bike clinics, a bike swap, ongoing live entertainment, meet & greets with the pros and much more.

Tour de Nez’s 16-Year History
Started 16 years ago to celebrate the anniversary of Reno’s first coffee house, Deux Gros Nez, the Tour de Nez has grown from a Masters Twilight Criterium to a six-day festival complete with pro, amateur and enthusiast events. Revelers enjoy live music, unique food, mint juleps, bike decorating contests, face painting and the best that the cycling world has to offer. Additionally, top companies from the bike, outdoor and adventure sports industries will be on hand for an expo with booths, displays and demonstrations of the latest and greatest gear.
