Treat yourself to an unforgettable experience on America’s premier Alpine lake – Lake Tahoe. Besides the big Lake, the North Lake Tahoe region is home to many streams, rivers and smaller bodies of water.

Depending on the season, you can expect to catch Mackinaw (Lake Trout), Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Kokanee Salmon. The Mackinaw season is open all year. Introduced to Lake Tahoe near the turn of the century, Mackinaw have reproduced rapidly over the years. The daily combined limit is 5 fish per person (2 Mackinaws, 3 Trout). Average size is 2—7 pounds and many 20—30 pound trophies are taken each year.

Lake Tahoe offers the best Kokanee and Lake Trout fishing in California and Nevada. The state record Kokanee and Lake Trout came from Tahoe. Kokanee record is 4lb. 15oz. and the Lake Trout record is 37lb. 8oz.

In addition to fishing in Lake Tahoe, there are other great locations. Warm spring and summer days will mean great fishing in the beautiful lakes and streams of the Tahoe Basin. <a href="http://www.tahoe.com/article/20080421/HOME/647508364/1019/GETOUTDOORS02"target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.tahoe.com');">Tahoe.com has identified the best top ten sites.

Fishing is red hot this spring in the Lake T area. On the North Shore, Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters (530-544-6552) says ”we’re catching limits or close to limits on every trip. We have been trolling 60-220 feet deep. We locate the fish on the fish finder and then troll Dodgers and a live minnow in a “Figure Eight” pattern, bouncing the bottom. I’ve been fishing at Cal Neva and Dollar Points. Monday, we caught a 10-pounder (32 inches) in 65 feet of water. ”

Fishing on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe is even hotter. Gene St. Denis says, “The Cave Rock Landing Ramp is now totally clear of snow. On Monday, I had a report of a man and wife toplining with a “Trophy Stick” in 25 feet of water in the Cave Rock area. She caught a 21-pounder (Mackinaw trout).”

This is one fish story that didn’t get away.
