Harrah’s Lake Tahoe – A Premier Casino

by Lux Living on November 30, 2009

Casinos are a big deal in American culture—and even world culture today—and have been for quite some time. In the early 1900s, most gaming venues were mere humble saloons and broken-down houses where gamblers went to play cards and basic slot machines.

Over the years, emphasis was put on lavishness, and today’s casinos are true modern marvels, offering up luxurious resorts, fine cuisine, and exquisite scenery and, of course, the best gambling you can hope for.

One of Nevada’s premier casinos doesn’t find its home in Las Vegas. Harrah’s in South Lake Tahoe is an abundant monument to lavish excess that millions of people have stayed and played in. This 540-room high-rise hotel and casino has a pristine setting.

Sierra-at-Tahoe

by Lux Living on November 11, 2009

With trails cutting through dense evergreen forests, Sierra-at-Tahoe evokes images of its sister resort, Northstar-at-Tahoe—only Sierra has a slightly steeper pitch.

The compact base area and no-frills, laid-back atmosphere (as exemplified by its motto, “Just Chill”) also make Sierra, like Northstar, a good place to bring the whole family.

The base area offers affordable, kid-friendly value meals, and the Parent Predicament lift ticket allows considerable family flexibility; for the cost of a full-day adult ticket, one parent can ski while the other stays with the child until they’re ready to swap duties.

Parents can also opt to leave their brood with Wild Mountain, a licensed daycare facility. But don’t let this cast the impression that it’s a families-only resort; the four new terrain parks have become quite the draw for area freestyle and daredevil skiers and ‘boarders alike.

Sand Harbor – Enjoy the Soft White Sand

by Lux Living on October 13, 2009

Sand Harbor beach - Lake Tahoe

Sand Harbor is one of the most amazing sandy beaches on all of Lake Tahoe.

Most of Nevada’s east shore of Lake Tahoe is void of sandy beaches. The exception is Sand Harbor. The many beaches on the Nevada side beaches have coarse sand that can be very tough on your feet.

Due to Lake Tahoe’s prevailing breezes, they deposit a fine grained white sand at Sand Harbor that has become its namesake.

Tallac Historic Site – A Tahoe Community Endeavor

by Lux Living on October 4, 2009

Tallac Historic Site - Lake Tahoe

Tallac Historic Site is one of those hidden gems of Lake Tahoe that it definitely is a must see.

Admission is free except to special concerts. Thirty percent of all purchases from the Cultural Arts store and all ticket sales go to assist with preserving the historic site. On a typical sunny August weekend afternoon in August, you might find the Reggae Allstars performing on the lawn, a theatrical performance scheduled for evening and visitors chatting with artists displaying or creating their works.

Tallac Historic Site, run by the U. S. Forest Service, contains three historic properties that once belonged to the Baldwin, Pope and Heller families. The houses, built between 1894 and 1923, offer a glimpse of the lifestyles of Tahoe’s early rich and famous. But it’s the Tahoe Tallac Association’s Cultural Arts Program that breathes life into what might otherwise be a museum-like setting.
