Horizon Casino Resort - An Elvis Favorite

The Horizon Casino Resort hotel, formerly known as the Sahara, was once Elvis Presley’s regular Tahoe hangout. The King’s former luxury, showroom now houses the hotel’s movie theater.
The 3-Star Horizon Casino Resort is located in the middle of the action on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe and has been called Tahoe’s Best Kept Secret. Just minutes from Heavenly Ski Resort, the Horizon features fantastic entertainment, some of Tahoe’s finest restaurants, an 8-plex move theater and some of the most exciting game action.
Offering two hotel towers with 549 hotel rooms and suites, the rooms offer spectacular views of either mountain, lake, forests or pool views. The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated and feature such amenities as cable TV, voicemail, direct dial phones with data port, On-Demand movies and balconies off of most rooms. They also have the largest outdoor swimming pool in Lake Tahoe. If it’s too chilly for a swim, you can warm yourself in one of their huge hot tubs.
There are three restaurants on site, including Four Seasons Restaurant open 24 hours a day and featuring classic American, international and regional cuisine. Town Square Buffet serves what is considered the best buffet value in town, offering authentic Mexican, Chinese and International cuisine along with specialty salads and desserts. Open daily from 5 pm to 9 pm. For fine dining, be sure to check out Josh’s, featuring great steaks, fresh seafood and pasta, open daily for dinner only, reservations recommended.
Besides the movie theater, the Horizon is home to the Golden Cabaret, now featuring “Fusion 2″ which combines grand illusion and interactive magic and comedy; The Aspen Lounge with great free entertainment and dancing; and, Game World for some high tech entertainment and fun for everyone.
The Horizon Casino Resort offers a full selection of the latest and most popular slot machines as well as many of the old favorites. There is also a wide range of table games, including black jack, craps, Poker Pai Gow and Roulette, Keno and of course, the ever popular Poker, all filling a 42,000 square foot casino area.

This hotel has 539 guestrooms in two towers; the Aspen tower has nine floors, the Alpine tower 15. Rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Lake Tahoe, Sierra Nevada Mountains, or the pool. All have light oak furnishings, including tables and two chairs, plus floral artwork, tiled bathrooms, and vanities with benches and large mirrors.

What to expect: More subdued than some of its mega-casino hotel neighbors, the Horizon attracts leisure travelers who appreciate value and a resort on a smaller scale. The low-key lobby with its marble floors, mirrored walls, and large photos of Lake Tahoe is frequented by families headed for the large pool or video arcade, as well as celebrating couples.
Amenity highlights: The Horizon’s self-contained eight-screen movie theater complex (fee charged), complete with a refreshment stand, shows current releases daily, with bargain matinees. For those pursuing real-life romance, the hotel?s wedding planners can coordinate nuptials at the on-site chapel or elsewhere around the lake. Meeting and reception space measures 13,000 square feet. Recreational amenities include a large free-form pool and three spa tubs.
